Prayer and solitude

Jesus prayed often, usually alone, often before the crowd's next demand.

• Withdraw to Pray - rose before dawn; often slipped to lonely places (Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16)

  In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.Mark 1:35 NASB1995

Scripture

Jesus did not treat the Bible as decoration. He knew it, read it aloud, quoted it under pressure, and opened it for others.

  Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. Worship, Sabbath, and feasts

• Synagogue and temple; feasts in Jerusalem (Luke 2:49; John 2:13-17)

  The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; and to those who were selling the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a place of business.” His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house will consume me.”John 2:13-17 NASB1995

People and compassion

• Table Fellowship - ate with disciples and sinners (Mark 2:15; Luke 5:29-32)

  And Levi gave a big reception for Him in his house; and there was a great crowd of tax collectors and other people who were reclining at the table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.   Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.” Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.” So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. • Kingdom on the Road - town to town teaching, preaching, healing (Luke 4:43; Matthew 9:35)

The Father's will

The engine under every rhythm: obedience to the Father, one day at a time.

• The Father's Food - “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me” (John 4:34)

• Only what pleases the Father (John 5:19; 8:28-29)

  So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.”John 8:28-29 NASB1995
